These paintings explore the idea that an Ancient force of Nature is manifesting itself into our modern urban surroundings, adopting an organic form of AI to communicate an urgent warning to us about the way we are heading towards the destruction of our Species and everything else that resides on our planet.

Similar to the communication networks that exist in nature (mycorrhizal) this desperately manifesting entity has developed its own organic form of AI- to generate a facial-form based on thousands of years of iconography blended into the diverse look of our modern population. This face has been formulated to stop us in our tracks, a pure force of nature, Its piercing eyes watching us in silent judgement.
The faces in this work have a melancholic and haunting feel to them, as they struggle to be seen & heard among the sea of pixels and digital noise fighting for our attention. Like spectral chameleons, these swirling balls of energy mimic our contemporary environment, with geometric shapes and features that manifest into forms we are more likely to recognise and take notice. They are prophetic visions, warning us that our time is running out unless we start to listen to the lessons of the ancient ones and heed our self-destruction.
Throughout history mythological figures with links to nature -like Osiris and Tāne Mahuta, have existed in the folklore of cultures around the world and their presence was widely celebrated by our ancestors, but that sense of magic seems to have faded from our vision, as the fragile ecosystems they were said to inhabit have become more scarce and we drift further from the pull of mother nature and hurtle towards the realm of the machine.
The choice of basic materials such as wallpaper lining and ready-mix paints are to render the textures with visible human imperfections that reflect the rudimentary nature of these manifestations, as this ancient spiritual being tries to replicate our environment through biomimicry. Analog textures and abstractions are also deployed to countenance the often cold & clinical feel of digital art and are an act of resistance against AI systems -which can’t recognise them as faces or convincingly replicate.
The aesthetic of these pieces is informed by: patterns in nature, Ancient mythology, Graffiti textures, Rorschach inkblot tests, 90’s dance music flyers, MRI scans and 60’s psychedelic art.

“I hope that my work will help to open up portals in contemporary spaces that can connect us with some of the remaining ancient magic in the World. In doing so, I hope to create a sense of unease and mystery that will prompt the viewer to question their own beliefs about the future we are facing, our need for escapism and the celebration of beauty through art”.
“These are not faces, they are doors, access portals or escape routes to another dimension”
